Faran Shahzad

Faran is a Foreign Qualified intellectual property lawyer (NZ) with a particular focus on patents and trade marks.  

Faran will be dually registered in NSW (as well as NZ) in 2024. 

With a background in physiology, Faran is passionate about life sciences industries.  His focus is on patent and trade mark legal issues relevant to pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food technology, and animal health.   

Beyond patents and trade marks, Faran’s practice also includes dealing with health regulatory matters and consumer law.  

Fluent in English, Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi, Faran is a great asset to Pearce IP’s clients based in India and Pakistan.   

He manages contentious and non-contentious patent and trade mark matters, and assists with office actions.  Significant matters Faran has managed include patent and trade mark projects relating to pharmaceutical molecules, formulations and methods of treatment, over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, surgical instruments and medical devices, health products, and chemical compositions.   

Faran is proficient in building effective market entry strategies, conducting freedom-to-operate (FTO) clearances, providing strategic advice and assisting with complex disputes.   

Faran is also an inventor and patent owner of a pharmaceutical invention.  He is passionate about helping clients commercialise new medicines and techniques that improve health.  Faran is a strong contributor in the startup community where he provides intellectual property guidance and mentorship.
