Sarah advises clients across all aspects of patent practice, including patent drafting and prosecution, opposition proceedings, freedom-to-operate assessments, patent portfolio management and strategic intellectual property advice. She works with clients from the earliest stages of innovation through to managing complex international patent portfolios, helping them develop intellectual property strategies that support commercialisation, investment, competitive advantage and long-term business growth.
Her technical expertise spans the life sciences and biotechnology sectors, with particular strengths in molecular biology, microbiology, enzyme technology and genetics. She enjoys working with innovators across a broad range of technologies, helping them secure meaningful intellectual property protection that supports research, development and commercial success.
Before joining Pearce IP, Sarah practised as both a German Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in private practice and in-house. Most recently, she was Senior Patent Counsel at a global consumer goods company, where she managed a substantial enzyme patent portfolio and partnered closely with scientists, innovation teams and business stakeholders to develop intellectual property strategies aligned with commercial objectives. This breadth of international and in-house experience gives Sarah a practical understanding of the strategic, commercial and operational considerations that underpin effective intellectual property protection and portfolio management across global markets.
Sarah holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Zurich. Her doctoral research focused on haemotrophic mycoplasma infections in horses and involved advanced research in molecular biology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, host-pathogen interactions and veterinary science. This strong scientific foundation enables Sarah to quickly understand complex technologies, communicate effectively with researchers and technical teams, and translate scientific innovation into practical intellectual property strategies.
Sarah is passionate about helping innovators maximise the value of their inventions. She combines deep scientific expertise with practical patent experience and commercial insight to help clients protect innovation, manage intellectual property strategically and build patent portfolios that support business growth and long-term commercial success.
